***********BREAKING NEWS FROM KITSCHVILLE***********

*************EARTHA NEEEDS OUR VOTE****************

OK, so I hope everyone has already checked out Eartha Kitsch’s new blog Ranch Dressing with Eartha Kitsch. And, if you have not – well, we are just gonna have to lasso your butt and drag you over there aren’ t we! Just kiddin’ y’all! Well, I wanted to ask all the awesome readers of the No Pattern Required blog if they could do a big, huge favor for me. You see, Eartha needs our votes so she can win a visit from the Kozy Shack Pudding Patrol! I ask you, who in their right mind, does not want to see her do a post on the Kozy Shack Pudding Patrol? I know I want to see what the Pudding Patrol looks like. Hmmmmm, maybe it’s a bunch of people dressed up in pudding outfits, or maybe they arrest you if you do not have enough Kozy Shack pudding (uh-oh, better be careful Eartha, they might throw you in the Puddin’ Prison). The possibilities are endless in dreaming of the Pudding Patrol. But I digress, if the Pudding Patrol pays her a visit she also has the chance to win some much needed $$$$$! So, I humbly ask y’all – could you pretty please, with double and triple sugar on top, vote for Eartha in the Kozy Shack pudding contest. You can vote for her once a day until September 15th and voting is SUPER easy. Click HERE for the link to vote. Trust me y’all, I have checked out all the other entries in the Kozy Shack contest and no one even comes close to Eartha ! Eartha deserves to win, and she can win with our help! Spread the word if you want to see a visit from the Pudding Patrol!

Here is Eartha Kitsch’s entry in the Kozy Shack Pudding Contest! Please look for her picture! And thanks for your help y’all!

Hi Jack! That Kozy Shack sure does look Mmmm, Mmmm goood!

And, may I ever so humbly ask for your help one more time? I picked up these Starburst glasses last week at Goodwill and I haven’t  a clue about them at all. Has anyone ever seen these before, or know when they were made? Or, who made them?

There are 6 water(?) goblets and 7 champagne cups.

The little Starburst shapes are actually etched into the glasses, not applied with paint.

Has anyone ever seen these before????

Help!!!!!!!

Thrifting Gems from Goodwill In Wisconsin!

Thrifting Gems from Goodwill In Wisconsin!

Hi All!  No guest blogger today, you guys just get little ole me.  I decided to give Jan the day off since she did such a great job filling in for me while Tom and I were in Wisconsin this last weekend.

What were we doing in Wisconsin?  Well, Tom ran a marathon this weekend, and came in 6th place!  Great job, hon!  He also was third in his age division, which is awesome.  I am so proud of him. Pictures of him running are coming soon.

In the meantime, I convinced Tom to stop at a Goodwill while we were out shopping the day before the race so I could check out the goodies they had in stock.  And here is some of the good stuff!

I almost had Tom convinced to buy this for the casseroles I make in the Mid-Century Menu.  Sadly, the back was scratched up pretty bad and it wasn’t really worth the price they were asking. Sigh!

This had one of the edges broken off, but I still loved the pattern!

I LOVED this coffee pot/tea pot, but Tom just couldn’t get excited about it.

This table was almost ours as well, but the veener had chipped off on one side, so we decided to pass.

Someone totally jacked this painting up!  As you can see, they pasted photos and pictures of a bride and groom OVER the picture underneath. Jeez.

You can still see the edge of the painting underneath the collage. We tried to peel it off, but it was just damaging the painting, so we gave up. I wonder what was under there?  A landscape? A bullfighter? An abstract? Ahhhh…oh well….

This chair was amazing! It was two-toned pink and burgundy vinyl with bronze accents.  I was so sad to leave it, but it had three big cigarrette burns in the seat, so I would have just hand to recover it. Dang.

Another item that Tom didn’t really care for but I loved.  Check out the awesome upholstery on this baby.  Love those birds!

Here is a close-up.  As you can see, the sofa is even quilted AND tufted, and the colors were gray and mustard yellow. Hubba hubba.  And only $35!

Last one.  I thought this one was great because this is the sofa everyone’s parents or grandparents had in their house in the 1970′s! Ahh…memories…

Etsy Round-up – Your Mid-Century Bar

Here are this week’s picks for your mid-century bar from Etsy!

First, you need something to mix up those great classic cocktail recipes. Here are two great vintage cocktail shakers from libbygoodwife. Uhh…the fantastic Maytag stovetop is apparently just a bonus. :)

Secondly, something to serve your great cocktails. These atomic cocktail glasses from bythewayside should do the trick!Atomic Cocktails

And last, but not least, is a way to keep all your mid-century cocktails snuggly and drip-free, a set of slide-on coasters by Hi-Jacs from Caraway Cache’s shop.

Recent Thrifted Finds – What I am Keeping!

Vintage Finds 7-2-09 005So, we recently took a trip to Bay City, as I mentioned before, and while we were there we stopped at a fantatic thrift store called The Cat’s Meow.  I adore this place, not just because it is the size of a Walmart, but because they randomly have fantastic sales, so you never know how good of a deal you get until you get there.  The last time we showed up, the entire store was 50% off the already thrift prices, and all clothes were $.25. Score.

Anyway, this fine glass to the left is a vintage Wizard of Oz glass, a line that Hubs is crazy about. Seriously.  He loved the Wizard of Oz as a kid, and so anything vintage Wizard of Oz is immediately a must have in his book.  It is just a plus that these glasses have a vintage cartoony look and are done in a 1950′s color palette.

We got this one for $.25. I know, I was floored, too. Anyway, we have the straight bottomed set, and this is one of the wavy bottoms, so if anyone wants to trade another glass from this collection or buy this one, feel free to email me.  Until then, this baby will reside with the others in their little glass house.

Vintage Finds 7-2-09 056I also picked up this great little decorative pottery bowl.  It has no markings on the bottom, but that doesn’t mean it isn’t great. This picture doesn’t show it, but the bowl is pretty small, like four inches or so from pointed end to pointed end.  The depressions in it make me think it is an ashtray, since the little depressions look like they should hold cigarettes, but it doesn’t look like it was used very often, if at all. So, if anyone has a clue what this is, or who made it, feel free to comment.  Otherwise, it is going into the living room to be used as a decorative piece.

Anyway, I got so many, many more things.  Sorry about the lack of pictures in this post.  I originally intended to put a Flickr slideshow in this post, but I couldn’t get photos to upload today for some reason.  Not sure what the deal is with that.  In any case, I will try to post more of the finds as soon as I can, including the dresses I got.  I will post them seperately next week, because I need advice on how to get some stains out.

New Thrifted Finds – Deer Glasses and Awesome Watering Can

Wallpaper and Vintage Finds 011Hello all!  Welcome to Saturday!  Hubs and are at my friend Megan’s wedding today, but here are some recent garage sale finds for your viewing pleasure.

These are 4 awesome mid-century deer glasses that I bought from a garage sale that was down the street from me.  The nice man who was running the sale said they were in his cabin up north for as long as he could remember. He said is mother got them from the Mobile gas station when they would stop on the way up to the cabin to buy gas. So cute, and I love the back story!

So pretty, aren’t they?  I love them.  These are totally going straight into my cabinet. How much were they, you ask?  Ohhhh…50 cents for all four!

Here is another find from the same sale, for 50 cents too!  A cute, small watering can in great shape.  Love those local garage sales.

Mid-Century Shopping: The Midland Antiques Festival

antique-show-006

Happy Monday, all! Whew, I spent most of this morning trying to figure out how to put a slideshow into my post. Man, learning a new skillset is hard. Anyway, I took a ton of pictures from the recent antique festival, and I wanted to jam them all in the same post and it seemed like the most efficient way.

If you want to see the Flickr descriptions that go with the photos, enlarge the slideshow with the arrow button in the bottom right corner and when it enlarges, click on “Show info” in the upper right-hand corner.

antique-show-009Anyway, the show was amazing.  There is so much stuff here in Michigan!  I was a little disappointed that there wasn’t more mid-century modern at the show.  There was a lot of Depression glass, Victorian and art deco, which I love to look at, but nothing really atomic.  The good point about that was when we did see it, it usually was pretty cheap!  I did stumble on some bargains, too. There was a both that had old cookbooks for 50 cents, a glass place that had 30% off everything, and one booth that had a ton of old patterns for cheap!

So, enjoy the slideshow.  Tell me what you think. Do you want the individual photos, or do you like the slideshow? Hope you had a great weekend!
